Vermont - Sep 2015

THIS GALLERY IS A WORK IN PROGRESS; the photos have all been uploaded but no corresponding text has been added yet.
Dave's niece and husband (both are our ages) invited us to join them on their trip to Vermont, Sep 27th - Oct 3rd, staying in a 2bd/2ba condo at Wyndham's Smuggler's Notch Resort. We quickly agreed as Dave was the only one of us 4 who had ever been to any New England states before. Our week there should have been their peak "Fall Colors" time but they had unseasonably warm weather until the day before our arrival so their Fall colors were just beginning. Another let-down was that over the 6 days we were there we had light rain/misty weather for 2.5 of them, but we didn't let that keep us from getting out and seeing things. We took a day-trip one day, driving across VT, NH and ME to Maine's coastal city of Portland. It was a long drive but beautiful. While in Portland we took a 105-minute trolley tour and afterwards took the ferry across to Peaks Island, hiring a taxi (van) to give us a private hour-long tour of that island. We took another day-trip and drove the opposite direction, driving to Burlington, VT and taking bridges that connected the large string of islands that ran up the middle of Lake Champlain. We exited to the West at the top of the highest island over to New York. A few miles further we saw a sign at a "T" intersection that indicated New York to the left but Canada (1 mile) to the right. We decided to try and see if we could cross into Canada with just driver's licenses and they let us. We drove 5-10 miles into Canada to their first town and ate dinner there before heading back to the resort, which was only 1.5 hours away.
I volunteered to be the trip planner & photographer. I LOVE nature (specifically waterfalls), but also old barns and churches. Danny is the Fire Marshall of their city so anytime I saw either a fire station or fire truck/(boat) I took picture(s) of those, too. I deleted at least 30-40% of the total pictures I took, so even though you might wonder why is there another picture of a "red tree", or another "large house", it's because we just don't see those type sights very often in central Texas and I was so impressed with their architecture and type trees.
