One week after this snake incident, I was walking at night from our carport area, across the front left side of the yard to our front porch. When I was about a foot from the porch's end/(step) I heard a definite "rattling" and my peripheral vision saw the snake uncoil and slither away as I immediately jumped backwards away from the area. By the time we got a flashlight and hoe it had disappeared.
