The LEFKAS ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY (LAWS) is a self-funding, charitable society on the island of Lefkas, one of the lesser known Ionian Islands, in Greece. We comprise of a handful of individuals, who do our best to address the welfare and survival needs of stray, unwanted, abandoned, neglected and abused animals by feeding, sterilising and emergency treatment.

We do this by taking the animals into our own homes or monitoring and caring for them in situ. We are not a sanctuary, and believe that the way forward lies in the promotion of information and education; by tolerance and understanding of local cultures and by our own example.

However, change is slow and what many of these animals need now are homes so, to this end, we are asking for your help.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

If you are in a position to foster or adopt an animal – for however short a time - do contact us.

If you are going to be travelling to the UK, Holland, Germany or any animal friendly country from Greece, and could take a dog with you, then please let us know.

If you know of somebody who would like to home a stray from Lefkas, we can always send pictures of animals “on the waiting list”.

(We may be able to arrange for the dog to do its quarantine time here, on Lefkas, should that be a requirement for your country, and have experience in organising the transport of animals by air, road and sea, within Europe. Try us!)
