Dogs homed

LABIS

From the unwanted litter of a privately owned dog, Labis was unsuccessfully homed for a few weeks until his new owner realised she hadn't properly considered the impact of a second dog on the one she already had! Very home-loving and affectionate, he stayed with a LAWS foster carer for four months, and has now found a new home in Germany.

NIKI

Niki had been wandering around Nikiana with another stray during the summer of 2007. She was being fed by a local who, already having taken on 3 abandoned puppies earlier in the year, was unable to keep them. The other dog was taken on in the winter of 07/08 by an English couple in Vasiliki and Niki was fostered by a LAWS volunteer until last August when she was adopted by a young Swedish girl. Along with another Swedish girl and another adopted dog, she went on a long car journey through Europe to her new home.

ROBBIE, STELLA AND SISSY

These are three 3-4 month old puppies found abandoned in Mikros Gialos (Poros) early last summer. Robbie was quickly adopted by a young Greek man who happened to be on holiday in Vasiliki. Sissy and Stella were fostered by a local Greek/Swedish family and they finally decided to permanently adopt Sissy - the longer-haired little girl. Stella eventually found a new home in Austria later last summer.

BRUCE

Bruce came from Yeni where he was wandering around with his mum. She was badly injured when hit by a car and had to be put to sleep when he was about 4 months old. A lovely dog, who craved love and attention, he eventually left for a new life in Austria last December.

SPOTTY

Whilst being kicked down the stairs by his owner, Spotty was fortunate enough to be taken in by a neighbour who knew about LAWS. He is a Dalmation/Setter cross, about 6 months old, very obedient and despite the treatment he first encountered, seems unscarred and is a thoroughly lovable little dog. He has recently travelled to Austria, where he is staying with a foster carer, awaiting a permanent home.

FLOX

Flox is a very lively 6-month old pup weighing about 10 kg. His mom is Seika who has now gone to Germany. Flox was one of a large litter of pups found near the old wine factory by the bridge in Lefkas town. He has now also made the trip to Germany to be placed in a permanent adoptive home.

NIKIANA PUPS

This was once an urgent problem, but had a happy ending. These little ones were found in a garbage can in Nikiana and placed in a box on the side of the highway and fed in situ by a Nikiana resident. They were quickly taken into care just before Christmas 2008 and fostered in Paleokatouna. Three of them have now been adopted by Lefkadian residents, both Greek and foreign whilst the fourth (Maisie)s just gone to Germany.

LASSIE and FLUFFY

Lassie was one of 3 dogs removed from a bad situation i.e. tied up with no shelter and very little food. The fur was missing from her front paws and it was initially thought that she had an infection until it was learned that her former owners had dropped lime on her feet. After a week or so the fur grew back but it must have been very painful initially as her paws were literally burned. She stayed in foster care for 4 months and was then placed in a new home in Germany. Fluffy stayed with a different carer but he, too, went to Germany with Lassie to a new foster home.

AG.YIANNIS PUPS

These 2 pups (1 male/1 female) were found in a garbage can at Ag. Yiannis beach. They were fostered in Vassiliki, but have now both found new homes, one locally and one in northern Germany.

LEFKAS MOM ("Fani") & PUPPIES

This gentle and affectionate stray mother chose a business in the centre of Lefkas town to give birth to her 3 male puppies....in the middle of a rainstorm on Jan.13! Having been well looked after in a foster home in Lefkas, they are now all in excellent hands in northern Germany, waiting to go to their new homes when old enough to leave mum.

APOLPENA PUPS ("Krissa" and "Ali")

These two little female puppies were abandoned on a property in Apolpena. They're about 8 wks. old and very cute and cuddly. The owner of the property kindly offered to care for them until permanent homes could be found, so the pups were safe, sheltered, and well looked after. One has already been adopted in northern Germany and surely the second will soon find a loving, new home.

SEIKA (aka Sarah)

Seika is the mother of Molly and Flox. Her and her litter of 6 puppies were found in Lefkas town at the beach by the bridge, living inside an old burner in an abandoned wine factory. Seika is now happily re-homed in Germany.

YIOTA

Yiota's sad story has now had a happy ending. She has found a loving home in Germany with an animal-loving owner and a 6 year old male companion. There is a very large garden to run around in and her owner walks 8kms a day so she should finally shed some of those excess kilos. We were very sorry to see her go as she has such a lovely nature but we hope to see her again one day when we pass through Germany.

SANDY

Sandy was a stray running around on the beach near the old wine factory by the bridge in Lefkas Town. She was being fed by some Dutch people on an old boat moored close by. Sandy came into season and this attracted about 5 male dogs to the area much to the consternation of some of the locals who liked to go swimming there. Luckily, a foster home was found for Sandy in Germany and she left Lefkas at the beginning of June along with Robby, Maisie, one of the Vasiliki pups and another unwanted dog.

ROBBY

Robby was taken in as a puppy and then the novelty wore off. He was left tied up alone and neglected. An English lady in the village used to feed him and secretly take him out for walks although the family couldn't care less what happened to him. When a foster home was found for him in Germany he left to go to a much better and loving home.

NICKY (aka MISSY)

Nicky was found abandoned at the music school in Lefkas town when she was a few weeks old. She was a cute little ball of fluff! Nicky stayed with one LAWS member for a short time and was then adopted. However, her new home was in an apartment and this did not work out well since she needed a garden to play in. So, Nicky was given up and was then placed in a foster home. Eventually, Nicky was placed in foster care with another LAWS member who fell so in love with Nicky that she adopted her permanently.
