Western Gilled Bolete
This small gilled fungus is a member of the Boletaceae family, despite the gills. The caps are olive green to brownish tan when dry or in age. Caps may attain 3.5 cm in breadth, with a convex shape that can become plane. From above the caps look for all the world like a small bolete with a velvety cap, but on flipping it a surprise of bright yellow gills is seen. The gills are thick, widely spaced, sometimes forking, with short gills present. They are notched to subdecurrent. The stipes are yellow, often with brownish streaking, up to 9 cm tall and 2.5 cm across, cylindrical and tapering downward. The usual habitat is mixed forests. The flesh is yellow. There is no odor. They are said to be edible.
