Shine Eye is a spot I found in the swimming holes book from Tim Ernst. We started going in 2015 as a "break" of sorts from the spots we'd been going to the 1st two years (Ponca, Pruitt, Bradley Park etc), to sort of "freshing things up" a bit. It also was a spot which remained close-by after we started going to Marshall instead in 2024, making that "shift" in our future vacations feasible.

Shine Eye has deep water, although the first year (2015) it required me to hike to the left about 10 min to find a deep spot (a spot sort of to itself near a "bend" located near GPS coordinates 35.991308,-92.74144), but in other years I've found deep water right where you enter. It also has a smooth bump-free path for driving, and it's near other spots such as Grinder's Ferry, Tyler Bend and Collier Homestead (for hiking). It also has a small cave in a portion of one of the bluffs, which our kids enjoyed in 2015 when they were little (6 and 8).

The minuses of this spot--it's not as well shaded as other spots such as Archey Fork, although it does have more of it than places like Ponca. Also, its location seems to be one that's apparently something of a "hub" for people who "float" and canoe, so at times it can become a bit busy-ish (to the point that in 2024 I had an unpleasant encounter with people protesting my photographing the area near them, something which was altogether ridiculous--I still took photos anyway).

It's located about 15 min from Marshall, so going back to get something to eat is not a big deal. There is a place only 8 min away North on 65 near St Joe's called Big Springs Trading Company as well as a Ferguson's, although they seem to be closed a lot (but if Big Springs is open it seems to have good "country cookie" choices and that whole charming "down ambience). There's also a canoe rental shop nearby (again, this spot seems to be in a "hub" where much floating and canoing takes place).

Gilbert is another spot which is in the same area, but I've never bothered to check it out.

As mentioned, you will be about 15 minutes away from Marshall, which has a few places for eating and gassing up your car, always a consideration for any point of interest in my opinion.
