Tomato hornworm caterpillar (Manduca quinquemaculata), #7776

Reveler Conservation Area

Also known as the Five-spotted Hawkmoth, a Sphinx moth (Family Sphingidae). These very large caterpillars feed on tomato plants in particular, but are partial to anything in the Solanaceae family of plants. We saw five of these larvae. Not overly common up this way, but much more so south and west of Ottawa.
