This is a tiny froglet of the year, sitting on a goldenrod leaf. The great naturalist writer, Joseph Wood Krutch has these memorable words about spring peepers, a small frog heard early in spring (and again sporadically in later summer):
"I have often wondered that a world which pretends to mark so many days, and to celebrate so many occasions, should accept quite so casually the day when Hyla crucifer announces that winter is over."
