Red squirrel x 3

Three shots of the same rather scruffy looking red squirrel. This one was on a dead, fallen tree. It was furiously stripping off the loose bark and dropping it to the ground. At one point (bottom right photo), it picked up a strip and began eating it. A bit later it jumped down and picked up a piece and ran a little way with it (top photo) before dropping it and returning to the same location. It picked up another larger strip of bark (bottom left photo), and started to eat it too. Then it did a sudden backflip, rolled over several times, jumped up, shook itself and went back on the log to strip off more bark. Not sure what that was all about!

Poor little things...they must be hungry...perhaps it had ants on it and was bitten.
