Hover fly larva

Found along the K&P trail in Lanark County. This caterpillar-like insect is the larval stage of the syrphid flies(hover flies). According to what I can find out, this is probably a larva in the Subfamily Syrphinae. These are the larvae that feed voraciously on aphids.

You'd think that aphids could escape from this guy. Excellent capture.

It looks very tiny. If it eats aphids, it can be my friend. Super, detailed capture. V.
