Dark marathyssa (Marathyssa inficita), #8955

Photographed on a Scotch Thistle at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. The larval host plant is staghorn sumac and poison ivy. The Fletcher garden has an abundance of the former but none of the latter.

a remarkable looking moth, almost gothic in character...the spikey leaves add to the impression..
