Pandora sphinx moth caterpillar (Eumorpha pandorus), #7859

These beautiful big caterpillars have a strange sort of "hood" or "cowl" into which they draw their heads when they are disturbed. This one is just beginning to poke its head out again. You can see the large white spots that characterize this pretty cinnamon coloured caterpillar. They feed on wild grape and virginia creeper and on my way to and from Stratford, I was lucky enough to find three of these beauties.
