Willow gall caused by a sawfly

Found on a willow tree along the K&P Trail, west of Ottawa.

I had no idea what caused this particular gall, which is quite striking, but thanks to a comment left by a guest on another photo, I know that this gall is caused by a Pontania sawfly species. Bug Guide has some good shots of the variations:
