Willow gall caused by a sawfly

Found on a willow tree on a hiking trail in the west end of the city. I had no idea what caused this particular gall, which is quite striking, but now, thanks to a comment left by a guest, I know that this gall is caused by a Pontania sawfly species. Bug Guide has some good shots of the variations:

Most likely a Pontania sp. of sawfly.
