Fruit fly (Eutreta noveboracensis)

This is one of the larger fruit flies in our area,at between 5-8mm, and I think, very prettily marked. These are NOT the tiny little fruit flies that cluster around our fruit indoors. They are completely different. According to Bug Guide, these are gall-formers on plants in the Asteraceae family.
