Fruit fly (Eutreta noveboracensis)

Found along a rail trail near the Mer Bleue area. These little fruit flies are common at this time of year, but I am always thrilled to see them as I think them very beautifully marked. The larvae of this species live in the roots of goldenrod plants, and, no surprise, this was photographed on a goldenrod.

Fruit flies, I remember them as very annoying creatures, but you showed the pretty side of these tiny flies. The markings on the wings are great. Have a nice weekend Christine.
