Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon)

Near Smiths Falls. I was driving down a quiet dirt road when I came across three water snakes. At first I saw only one when I stopped to move it. Then I noticed that directly across the road was another one staring at the first one. I took a few photos and moved both. As I was getting into the car I saw what looked like a shoelace on the road, except it moved. Sure enough, another water snake, but this one a tiny little youngster. I moved that one too, and then looked for more along the rest of the road.

This one looks gentle and friendly, a visitor from another world (but actually, we're the visitors).

You did a good deed! :-) Were they feisty? I know this species can have a chip on their "shoulder".
