Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon)

Found in the Marlborough Forest, quite some distance from water, under a board, near a Smooth Green Snake. This is a juvenile. Notice how similar it is to the Milk Snake in its pattern and colour.

That are lovely aren't they. Many people down here confuse them with Water Moccasins. I think that is mostly out of a general fear of snakes.
