Hover flies (Sphecomyia vittata), a wasp mimic

Found on some Garlic Mustard plants in a conservation area, east of the city. These flies are astonishingly good mimics of wasps. Their colouring, body shape, even the longer than usual antennae (flies generally have very short antennae) contribute to their similarity. Of course, being flies, they don't sting!
