Dingy cutworm moth (Feltia jaculifera ) , #10670 ??

Found in Dacre, Ontario. This moth had clearly landed on a Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) because it has a little yellow pollen packet on its foot. This is the ingenious way in which milkweed is pollinated. Insects land, their feet sink into the flowers, the pollen packet sticks, they fly off to another flower and upon landing the packet is dislodged into the new flower. This is a very, very simplistic explanation, but that is the general idea. You'll often find all sorts of insects with these little pollen packets on their feet. But sometimes, the insects are unable to free themselves and end up dying in the milkweed. Sometimes, they lose a leg trying to escape.
