Spiderlings: Garden cross orb weavers

My garden. I noticed three tiny little blobs on a goldenrod. I looked more closely and saw they were three balls of spiderlings. I briefly touched the top one and the ball sort of exploded, with spiders running in all directions. Amazing.

September 2010: I think these spiderlings must be Araneus diadematus as I have dozens of these beauties around my garden now.
