Hangin' on: (Libellula quadrimaculata)

Marlborough Forest. This Four-spotted skimmer suddenly dropped into the water in front of me and lay on its back. I got a stick and held it out and he reached up and grasped it. I gently lifted him to shore where he climbed onto a blade of grass and began moving his front legs over his head several times, as flies do. Then he grasped this leaf and sat there presumably drying his very wet wings. This photo was taken before he actually started to clean himself. At this point it seemed he was just glad to have something to cling to. Hope he made it OK
