Fungus on birch tree, Phlebia radiata

An odd-looking fungus growing out of all the cavities on the birch snag. Thanks to Patrick Goossens for pointing out what it could be, and to Neil Mahler for confirming this.

I agree with your suspicions of it being P.radiata Cristine - a very variable species and equally common on Birch in Britain too.

Hi Cristine, I took some shots of the same fungus on a different tree, but I think they are the same. I will post these in a few days. It could be Phlebia radiata(wrinkled crust).
