Pitcher plant (Sarracenia purpurea)

Bruno marsh, near Plevna, Frontenac County. These carnivorous plants grow in peaty bogs. These red "pitchers" you see are the leaves which hold water which in turn traps insects that are then 'eaten' by the plant. The flowers appear later in the season and are on tall stalks that rise above the leaves.
