American Robins

Most of these photos were taken at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden and the Arboretum in Ottawa. Robins usually migrate south to warmer areas, but every winter some remain behind. As long as there is food they can survive the cold, although food is not always easy to find. Mountain ash and crabapple trees provide food and there are many of these trees at the above locations. Most of my photos are from the winter, as that is when the robins are more approachable as they feed on various of the wild fruit. You can see how the red of the bird's breast feathers fades in fall and winter, and intensifies in breeding season. I'm still trying for a really good photo of these birds.
