The Cinnamon Ibon was previously thought to be an abberrant white-eye, but genetic analysis has show it to be a distant relative to the sparrows (Passeridae), that diverged from the sparrows 31 million yeras ago.
It's the only member of the family Hypocryptadiidae and only occurs in cloud forest canopy on mountains on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines.
