The first trip this year was to the Monocacy Aqueduct. The next trip was to Shepherdstown on an extremely cold morning with the threat of snow showers. It was one of my hardest runs with the cold finally getting to me during the last stages and my fingers freezing up. You can see how bleak it is.
Then in February, the deep freeze caused the Potomac to ice up. There is also work going on the lock and in the building at Great Falls. The water flow to the locks in this section has been shut off. I could not run the next weekend because of the ice storm that hit us. I went around taking pictures instead.
In March, first a trip to Anglers Inn with the river in full form. Then a trip to the 4 Locks area and up to mile 112 for the first time. This was an excellent place to hit the trail. What a beautiful area! Next, a trip to Catoctin Creek and Brunswick from Point of Rocks after a snowstorm. Finally, a trip towards the city in the fog. The fog gives you a unique view of nature.
