Home from the Vets

HK went to the vet's for the first time. Since he was feral, they wanted me to wait a couple weeks to bring him in. In the meantime, he developed a bloody raw spot on his neck that he scatched constantly. So off to the vets we went.

The vet said it was a hot spot caused by an allergic reaction probably by a flea bite. He took HK to another room and shaved his neck, cleaned the area, gave him a cortisone shot and put cortisone and antibiotic cream on it which HK licked clean when he got home.

He got his vaccinations and oral antibiotics to take for a week. The vet said I should clean the area daily with hydrogen peroxide and put antibiotic and cortisone cream on it. Which I've done faithfully although HK turns it into oral medication within ten minutes.

The vet said HK was 10 weeks old at the outside and would be losing his baby teeth in another couple weeks. I would know then that he was 12 weeks old. He commented on how sweet he was which had surprised him since he was born feral and he had expected a fight.

Every evening, HK sleeps on my lap while I watch TV, resting up from his day of destruction. Like any normal kitten he is into everything, He has discovered he can knock over my antique glass lamp by grabbing the shade and pulling it. This fascinates him for some reason. So far it has survived.

He's been introduced to other people and lets them pet him. He seems more curious than aggressive.

I wonder about the ingestion of external meds by pets . . .but I suppose vets KNOW all that and if it would hinder HK (or any pet) I suppose they'd tell you. Of course, there's not much you could DO about it anyway. He seems to be turning in to quite the homebody=)
Killer still OK with him?
