White Trillium

West Virginia

I was afraid I'd miss the trillium this year. It wouldn't seem like spring without seeing them dotting the rocks and hills. But yesterday, an unexpected day off, I took to the woods and there they were in full bloom everywhere.

They are also called "Wake Robin" because they appear about the same time as Robins return from winter The name Trillium was given to this plant because all of its parts comes in groups of three. Plants take 6 years to grow from seeds to flowers and blossoms turn pink with age.

Trilliums are my favorite wildflower and one of the first I learned in the Smokys when I visited here in 1970. I grow several varieties in my side lot now. Beautiful images Karen. Vote.

This white one is stunning Karen. Really well done, with the flash still keeping the bg from going completely black. Nice!

So delicate but so beautiful. I love the purity of the white one but the bloodroot is a beauty.

My favorite spring indicator; up where I come from blood root is a different flower altogether. Light on number one is spectacular.

I love Trillium, but unfortunately they don't like me at all. Or my soil maybe. Beautiful pictures of this jewel in the woodland!

I know next to nothing about flora.
But, I now know about trillium.
And I know that these are three great shots.

Beautiful shot, Karen. I've seen a lot of the white, and several other colors,
but not the bloodroot. It is quite spectacular.

Magnificent images Karen.
As a bulb collector I tried to grow these but it is too warm here.

Absolutely stunning images of the Trillium, I have only seen the white ones myself, so this is quite a treat!

Wonderful. I need to learn about plants and flowers. But I'm lazy.
