Wild Dogwood

West Virginina

Unlike it's showy ornamental brother, this flower must struggle to survive in a wild often hostile environment. As it unfurls, the petals shows scars already infllicted early in its life. But it is a survivor and when the bloom is revealed, its imperfect beauty will still light the dark mountain where it was born.

I'm with Laine, your description could be the verbage to so many people, esp youngesters with difficult upbringings. Well done, as always. When's that book coming out?

You certainly have a wonderful command of the written word as well as the digital camera.

Beautiful photo and commentary. I never knew this, either. We should call this gallery "Karen's Floral Beauties and Botony 101" :):):) Keep 'em coming.

Your narrative brings this slightly battered dogwood blossom to life! The ones behind my house are showing their battle scars, too.
Very nice, Karen!

It has it's own beauty. I rather like the not so pure & perfect...reminds me of myself ;>) Super DOF, Karen.
