Karen,
I love to photographs of the old poor farm. At one time, my grandfather and grandmother - Robert and Gertrude Rowland were the caretakers of the farm during the depression. My grandmother used to tell me there was a reason the doors were red. A red door means "welcome". If a family had a red front door, tired travelers using horse and buggy would know it was a welcoming place to rest. They would be welcomed in and given food and a place to stay for the night.
