Rollrights: Epiphany by Flick Merauld

Rollright Stones, Oxfordshire, UK

It is through human interaction that the power of the stones seems to come alive. It is probable that ancient peoples held celebrations and rituals within the circle itself to bless the crops, mark rites of passage etc. Even today, visitors seem impelled to walk the circle in a purposeful manner, stand in the centre, touch the stones, dowse, hug the individual megaliths. This input seems to release and accentuate the inherent power of the place, linking earth, sky and participant to the stones and the landscape beyond.

This is a self portrait. I set everything up, chose the point at which I wanted the figure to appear, then gave the signal for my "assistant" to fire the shutter. f22, 1/15 sec, ISO 160 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Thanks Albert. I did quite a bit of dodging and burning to hold back some details and accentuate others, hoping for an ethereal feeling.

I really like the exposure in this Flick, bordering on the edge of detail arond your face... looks good! - Albert
