May 21

Spent a fair amount of the day at the 24 hour Relay for Life (American Cancer Society fundraiser). It was joyous to see the surviors walk/ride the first lap, to see the children entertain and be entertained, to see old friends greet each other in the celebration of life.
Tonight was a little different story. Far far too many luminerias were lit, under the full moon, while a mournful "Walk On" was sung and the thousands of people walking fell silent. If the morning was a celebration of life, the night brought rememberances and silence except for the sounds of people's footsteps, walking on.

Some faces in the crowd are here: http://www.pbase.com/kleaf/relay_for_life

I would have been unable to do his job. I would have been swept up in my own grief. What a powerful event (I wasn't famliar with this until now). Great work with the camera, Karen.

Wonderful shot! Very well seen - I can imagine how all the luminarias looked in the moonlight - must have been very moving.

Karen, the day certainly looks like it was fun and a great celebration of life.
The evening looks like it must have been a moving tribute. I am sorry to hear how much this disease has touched your life.
