Big Boy

My little town has become fairly widely known for antiques and older 'stuff'-found this guy standing outside a shop. He looked regal and dignified even though he is fading and in disrepair. I can't remember where in the country I remember seeing the restaurants he graced, I want to say the mid west, but could be wrong.

Big Boy's is a midwest chain. It's headquarters is in Michigan not far from where I live. I think they are called Shoney's in the south.

Shabby chic advertising. :)

My girlfriends and I would go to BigBoy after being out dancing at Muskego Beach Ballroom when I was in high school...yummy burgers and rings. I went to the Big Boy in Manistique, MI, in July and, sadly, the burger was not the same....there's a BigBoy on the Pennsylvania Turnpike...thanks for the memories.

Well, he was all over Ohio, that's for sure. I even worked for a Bob's Big Boy -- for two days. LOL. Good work, Karen!

The peeling paint adds to this guy's appeal. Nice composition.

Wonderful photo, Karen! I really like the composition. Poor old Big Boy, he's flaking and faded but he's still smiling.

I love the old look to ole big boy. Nicely composed, Karen.. i like the subtle colors... speaks of old things. We had one in town until about 2 years ago... was a great place to go after a night of clubbing.
Poor waitresses..lol

What a fun memory... he sure is a little worse for the wear, but still makes a striking subject.
Guest 14-Sep-2004 01:58

David Winge14-Sep-2004 01:45
I really like the colors and composition Karen, this is a beautiful shot. Several months ago I posted one, but he must have been much youngerhttp://www.pbase.com/dwinge/image/29421772 And of course, anyone wanting to find a resturant they have a locator at www.bigboy.com one of the original San Fernando valley locations still had the rollerskating carhops until just a little while back, and to this day has Hot Rod Saturday nights.

Got one (or had one) right here in beautiful downtown Gaithersburg -- and I looked like him when I ate there. Now I still look like him (i.e., fading and flaking) but I'm a little thinner.
Guest 14-Sep-2004 00:47
I love Big Boy! I posted a modern one myself, a few months ago. This is vintage; awesome!
Anne Young13-Sep-2004 23:56
I like the textures from the peeling paint. I've never eaten at a Big Boy's but they sure have a cute mascot! :)
