Inside I: the globe

11 November 2004 - Just a quick test shot (blown highlights and all) for my new NodalNinja. NodalNinja is a great and affordable panoramic head produced by Nick Fan at www.digital-initiatives.com ( see http://www.pbase.com/digital_initiatives/nodal_ninja_sph1 ). Compact and lightweight, yet sturdy and precise is the perfect panoramic bracket for my prosumer. I plan to do a more in depth evaluation but it will take some time for other commitments...I just could not resist to at least try one challenging setup.

Here as a first test I tried a indoor shot with objects very close to the camera. It is a stitch of 7 images done in PanoramaFactory with no retouching at all. It was shot at 28 mm using my A1 with the battery pack installed.

Note that I have not yet set up precisely all the distances etc, and I shot this with a small (not particulary stable) tripod... so it's only going to get better. NN has passed it's first test with flying colors!

Hi Adal

What do you think now? better?

Thanks for helping me stay "unwarped" ;-)

I see the "warp" feeling, you are right, it's too strange. I very much appreciate that you are so able to avoid it, this gallery is marvellous also for that!

Hi Adal,

Thanks!
PF does barrel correction during stitching, altough I agree that here some is till visible (the rug in particular). Maybe I could try PTlens before the fact, but overall it does not really disturb me with this image. I think it's because I like wide angle lenses, and I'm used to their effect and almost find the perfectly corrected images a bit too flat. I think the main problem here is that I went over the 180 degrees (on purpose for this test) and so the right side start to give you that "warp" feeling of 360 stitching, something that I generally tend to avoid.

Wow. You must only rectify the barrel distortion now, and it will be perfect!
