Piacenza has always been highly agricultural in the lower part of the province. Fields are delimited by very typical series of trees. Many are some kind of poplars, but there are also many Gelsi. They are pruned to have a very tyical rounded top like you see in this photograph. They were introduced many years ago to raise silk caterpillars, but now that trade has completely disappeared.
