I loved the place so much, I bought it! Really. It was at the auction and I ended up buying the entire building. I removed a bunch of the roof items, gaffs and tricks from the insides as well as the wooden slides and sign! I ended up giving away most of the stuff over the years and the wooden slides ended up being trashed :-(
THAT'S ME!!! 18-Mar-2009 00:05
In the 3rd picture from the left on page 2 at the bottom left, Magic Palace, that is ME in 1989. I was (and still am) a wife and mother of two who were 23 and 19 years old in 1989. I was 47. People always told me I looked too young to be their mother!

There has never been another fun house like the Magic Carpet, anywhere, anytime. Well at leaast in my travels. I'm just old enough to remember the carpet ride at the end. We sat on a bench made of metal rollers. Then the attendant pulled a lever that flattened this into a slide. Out we shot onto the carpet, bouncing along for fifty feet or so before skidding to a stop on a slower moving black rubber belt at the end. It's etched in my mind like this photograph. Thanks for sharing, Karl!

The Magic Palace is one of my fondest memories of Crystal Beach, as a child. I was born in '74, my parent brought me here all the time. The loganberry, this ride, and, at the end, the water slides that, in my memory at least, wound down the mountain...... There will never be a place like this to compare.....

Back when it was "Magic Carpet", the dark tunnels used to scare me, but I kept going 'cause deep down inside I LOVED this ride. When I was little, I took the slide at the end, but then I "graduated" to the carpet.

I remember it as the Magic Carpet but that would have been in the late 40's, 50's and early 60's. This ride and Comet were my favorites. I loved taking a girlfriend and getting her to take a rest on that seat that shocked your butt, then jump up and get the blast of air to blow skirt up. The devil made me do it!
I loved both the Americana and the Canadiana, They would pass by going and coming in the busy days. Bands and dancing on the deck and watching the huge engine churning below, the smell of grease and diesel. The boat ride was SOOO good and took so long to go and so short coming back. Kensington-Baily days were great bargin too for those tickets. I moved to Oregon in 74 and before that in my 20' the summer cottage rental at the beach and all the parties was the attraction of Crystal Beach.

If you had your dress blown up or your hat fly off of your head, chances are it was me! I worked on the Palace as well as Laff in the Dark from June-September 1989. I was 14 going on 15 yrs old at the time. Man, I would have worked there for free!

I rember the snake that hissed at you. I didn't like that but loved the rest including the slanted room and the carpet ride out.

I still remember my fist time on the Magic Carpet in the 60's. I had just made it past the falling wall, but when I had reached the first jumping out clown I had broken into tears, and my family had to take my out through the entrance.

This was my favorite place to visit at Crystal Beach! Yes, I fondly remember the Magic Carpet Ride, and the feeling of flying I got at the end of the ride! Thank you for the great photos-- they brought back so many memories!

I used to ride that rolling carpet. Someone always had a hard time getting out of the majic carpet ride. I loved it.
