Magic Palace

Funny how a song, a smell or a place will trigger a special memory. I will forever ascociate this place with a special person, in August of 1967. I still remember you... And maybe that's why it's the Magic Palace.

There is a Web site, maintained by Coaster Enthusiasts of Canada, with a pretty decent history of the park and many (more) photographic images. (This site won’t let me post the hyperlink.) Also, every summer, they (probably still) hold Crystal Beach Memories Day in the village. People bring all kinds of memorabilia; someone even used to show up with the section of walkway from the Magic Palace that had the air jet beneath the boards that “revealed” so many women in skirts. They even let you try it out! (By the way, the Magic Carpet became the Magic Palace in nineteen seventy-two because too many kids had been injured by the rollers under the big carpet--some seriously so.)

I remembering visiting when I was a small child and getting up the nerve to walk though the "Magic Palace" but we called it the Magic Carpet, Does anyone remember a display when walking the Magic Palace of an old Lady playing the piano and when she turned around she was a scary with...I never seen it cause I always had my eyes closed. Now its killing my that I never looked at her..anyone have any pictures or memories to share? Those were the best magical summers I guess it was around 1967-1969

The only existing childhood pic of me is as a 8 yr old running out of the exit of the magic palace. It was snapped by my Gramma who had taken me on that 'never to be forgotten' day trip 48 yrs ago It hangs enlarged and framed on the wall going upstairs!

Fond memories of this place. I remember being really young and too scared to go through it. If I remember correctly, one of the first rooms had a wall of crates that would come down like they were going to fall on you, then stop and go back up.
I rememember the long hallway with the black lights that would light up the flourescent paint on the walls.
The room with the bars you had to manueuver through and then the slanted floor.
Wasn't there also a chair on a slant that you if you sat down in, you couldn't stand up without using your hands to help you?
Playing on the slide at the end was always fun as well.
Oh the memories.

The smell of the waffles ans I would laugh at myself and others who looked in those crazy mirrors. I would stay in the magic castle for 1/2 hour going back and forth, spinning around in those upright barrels before finally I couldn't wait to go down the magic carpet. Wonderful memories. Nothing can match the fun I had at Crystal Beach. Thanks for sharing the photo.

...Walking in the dark passage ways and stepping on a board that would light up the figure in the cage next to you - also the room where the floors were all slanted. Great memories.

What about the maze and remember jumping on to the "Magic" Carpet and riding out on it at the end?

I remember the tall slides you could slide down to exit, at the end, or you could take a set of stairs if the long slides intimidated you! I also have a vague memory of walking on plastic lily pads, near the beginning of the ride, where you had to be careful balancing so you wouldn't stumble off of them.

I loved seeing people sit on the bench to rest and getting the shock of their life. And to this day I`ll never forget how hard I laughed when they blew the skirt of a very large lady and she had her back to the people in front of the Magic Carpet. When it blew up she had very large rips in her very large bloomer exposing her derrier. I remember it like it was yesterday and how much my pals and I laughed.
