Originally, it was called Kom Tong Hall. This is because it was the residence of its former owner Mr. Ho Kom-tong. Mr. Ho is the half brother of local tycoon Sir Robert Ho Tung.
After several times of ownership transaction of this building, the government purchased it from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2002.
This 1914 built hall was reopened to the public as a museum on 12th December, 2006.
