New Mexico is a showcase for muralists. Many buildings have large, colorful scenes depicting a wide variety of historical, cultural and artistic subjects. This gallery presents some of these awesome works of art. The viewer is advised that although it is not apparent, the art is often very large - covering whole sides of large buildings.
This painting and the two Kachinas were on display in a trading post in Gallup New Mexico. When I asked about the woman in the painting, the Native American sales clerk said she didn't know who the woman was, but over the years has referred to her as "Grandmother."
