The courtship dance of Sandhill cranes is totally delightful. The graceful ballet at times seems to be played out with total abandon, grabbing wads of grass, rocks, ears of corn and tossing them in the air. Heads bob, wings flap and legs fly out as they leap through the air. At times cranes mirror each other's moves and at times the dance steps are wildly independent. It's romantic poetry at its best. Makes me want to write a Haiku poem...
This gallery contains a series of images of the courtship dance that Sandhill cranes engage in this time of year. It's a lovely, graceful ballet that is a joy to watch.
