Wonderful pictures, thanks for posting. The 300mm is really impressive, with the TCll, I assume, since you reach 600mm. I wonder how the exif interprets the TC, mine does not.
(I have the old 300mm (non S).

Thanks Steve. A lot of these were taken just about as close as the lens would focus. In some of the situations I couldn't shoot because the bird came too close to me and the lens wouldn't focus that close, and I couldn't back up. Of course, there was always that far away raptor or treetop-perching toucan that begged for more lens, but 300mm in the forest was often enough and I shot most of the time without the 1.4 or 2x teleconverters I brought along.

John the Andean Emerald shots are superb - you must have been quite close with that 300mm lens. Vote!
