I rarely take off the 2x teleconverter on my 300mm for bird photography. But these hummers were comfortable enough that I could get away with it as long as I didn't move too quickly as I was about ten feet away. I am not sure why the EXIF data says no flash, but these in the Anna's series were all shot with either one, two, or 3 flash units on a variety of different settings and positions.
