Goddess Minerva Statue
On the seafront of Tossa de Mar, which runs along the bay through the Platja Gran, Platja del Reig and Platja de la Mar Menuda beaches, we find this amazing statue of the Roman goddess of wisdom and science, Minerva. Like his Greek counterpart Athena, she wears a helmet and holds firmly a spear, while she looks directly to the sea, on a pedestal. This bronze statue was created by the great Catalan sculptor Frederic Marés in 1974 and is a tribute to the founding of the ancient Roman villa here: Turissa.
