After we lost Nami in August 2013, who was almost 15 years old (minus eight weeks) we took a new Akita in December the same year. She was 7 months old and from the first glance we have loved her. She has a very friendly attitude and loves to play.

The Akita Inu is a Japanese breed of large dog.
Japanese history, both verbal and written, describes the ancestors of the Akita Inu, the Matagi dog, as one of the oldest of the native dogs.
The Akita Inu of today developed primarily from these dogs in the northernmost region of the island of Honshū in the Akita prefecture, thus providing the breed's name.
It was developed as a fighting dog and hunter of large game (included elk, antelope, boar, and Asian black bear), as well as a home guardian. In Japan, its image is often used to represent good health.
Recent DNA analysis found that the Akita was among the most ancient dog breeds.
In the original Akita (Japanese Akita) the only colors accepted are red, white, or brindle. Black mask, loose skin or too much mass are not accepted. The coat is easy to care for, requiring regular brushing but infrequent baths.
The National Dog of Japan, the Akita Inu is an immensely powerful and imposing animal with a massive chest and head, suggestive of a bear. Majestic in appearance, the Akita inspires immediate respect.
