Jadwiga (Hedwig), Queen of Poland in her own right, married Grand Duke Jagiello of Lithuania, who took the title King Wladyslaw II of Poland, uniting the countries bringing Christianity to pagan Lithuania.
She died due to complications during child birth. She was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1997.
