Blooms in snow

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.

Loveliest of trees by A E Housman

Brr... That makes me feel cold but, as well as being an atmospheric image, it is also a great illustration for that lovely poem!Nice one,John :>))

Oh no! Makes a pretty picture but the poor flowers. That little purple one didn't even open yet.

Summer was very nice this year, if a bit short !
globalgadabout04-Apr-2012 12:13

Many of them here got zapped twice. They drooped a bit but came back. Nice mixed season photo John.

I heard it snowed in Scotland but....just when they thought it was safe to show their faces too!!
Sheila03-Apr-2012 23:05
What a contrast to last week! But that's English weather. Great shot.
Love the poem too.
(I have 6 left so I'd better get a move on:-))

Wonderful photograph. The snow on the Daffodils makes a wonderful setting. V

It's a beautiful poem. Sadly daffs rarely are able to stand the weight of snow.
Looking back through my galleries on Pbase there are several years with snow at this time!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek... Still lovely.
Brian Samuel03-Apr-2012 20:46
Oh I see you've had the snow. Seems very odd to have daffs in the snow and it makes for a great picture.
We had rain, then broken cloud, then rain again.
chris morton03-Apr-2012 20:41
brrr, they look great with snow on, but looks like a finger chilling job to capture so nicely

Spring daffs and snow, what a combination, nice shot with the falling white stuff.
Patricia Kay03-Apr-2012 20:15
Beautiful image though Johnny...this is what its been like here in Sweden since Saturday and later in the week they promise DEEP snow...Just pruned the roses last week...hope they survive...BV
malcolm haslam03-Apr-2012 20:00
Great shot, Johnny...I hope the Daffs survive. Just had a quick look outside, and it's very cold rain that's coming down. Our forecast has changed too...from definite snow, to sleet. So hopefully the Bluebells will be ok.
:-)

yes, go now when there is time to see such beauty, the contrast between spring and winter so evident here, so miraculous each turning
Al Chesworth03-Apr-2012 19:42
