It must have been around the 1971 Nats when I got to fly against Place / Howarth. They flew the white model in this picture which gave them an easy win. They left the circle whilst I finished my fuel. After about 10 laps my model did a most unexpected loop, hitting the runway flat out. Total distruction! Turned out that my down leadout (22swg wire) had snapped half way down its length. Taking this as an omen, I never flew again. Good fun whilst it lasted but the hobby was just too expensive for me. Still have fond memories though.
