Bridge on the River Kwai

These photos are of the last of the original bridges built over the River Kwai as part of the Death Railway, connecting Thailand and Burma, during World War 2. Thousands of Japanese prisoners-of-war were put to work on the railway. One out of three died. (Although the majority of tourists to Thailand come from Japan, almost none of them visit this site.)

We were there in 1989. Such an emotional and worthy place to visit and never forget what the allies suffered. Your gallery is lovely.

a fantastic gallery,ive been here and been to the graves the museums,its a sad piece of history,lets never forget the poor people that died here,people never mention the thais that died here,i cant remember the exact numbers but to many.

These are the best photos of the River Kwai / Death Railway, out of 2 hours of Google searching. Brilliant. My dad, Carel Anthony Hart, was a surviving POW on the Bridge on the River Kwai with the Dutch Army based in Indonesia. Lived 19 Oct 1927 - 5 May 1992. 3 true stories he told me was- 1. The movie was very much played up. 2. He was shifted to Officer's quarters after spy planes went over & he lay on his bed as the bombs hit & said "Well if the bomb hits you, hiding under a bed will do you no good." 3.
