Thailand's second largest city, Chiang Mai was founded in the 13th century, and many ancient temples attest to its former glory as the capital of Lanna (Kingdom of a Million Rice Fields). Though eventually Lanna became a part of Siam [now Thailand), Chiang Mai retains its own culture, which can be seen in its architecture, handicrafts, and cuisine.
Wat San Muang Ma Luang is on Phrapokklao Road, just south of Chang Puak Gate, which is the north gate of the old city. It is across the street from the Vista Hotel.
